A private preschool on a school site with a maximum of around 50 children in a session in Leicestershire recently implemented On the Button to enhance the documentation and management of safeguarding concerns, staff and child well-being, and internal complaints.
This transition was prompted by the limitations of their previous paper-based system. A Social Worker's query about whether they used a digital system led the owner/manager to seek advice on the Day Nursery Owner's Facebook Page, where On the Button was recommended.
I was told that starting with On the Button has been beneficial in various ways.
Firstly, the help videos helped navigate the setup process and ensured staff were comfortable using the system. She found them very clear and slowly took her and her staff through each step.
I was particularly pleased to hear that arrangements were made to allow the staff to whistleblow in person or anonymously.
The preschool has fully adopted the software, with all staff using it to log safeguarding concerns, well-being observations, and other relevant information. One of the key benefits identified was the ease of access to information. Staff could log concerns immediately without leaving the room to find the manager or to collect the relevant form.
This streamlined process brought a sense of relief to the staff, reducing delays and improving the accuracy of reporting.
I asked for a recent example of how her team had used the software effectively. She explained how the software impacted the support for a child whose parents had recently separated. The mother informed staff about the situation, and this information was logged on the system. Staff then monitored the child's emotional well-being, tracked any behavioural changes, and ensured appropriate support was provided for both mother and daughter.
She said her team found On the Button a valuable tool, streamlining safeguarding and well-being processes. She told me that the software has led to increased logging of concerns due to accessibility, ensuring a more comprehensive approach to protecting children from harm and giving staff support. She felt that having all the information in one place made processes smoother, and everything was more efficient, benefiting staff and children.
Looking ahead, the preschool is committed to maximising the benefits of On the Button. They plan to explore additional features like staff well-being tracking and use the software to refine their complaint process.
