How long has On the Button existed?
On the Button was made available as a BETA product to a small number of nurseries and preschools in 2024 and was formally launched in April 2025. It was built from real early years experience and developed from proven software used in practice over time, then refined into a clearer, stronger specialist Early Years Safeguarding software designed to also promote well-being, complaint management and compliance.
Built by Quality Early Years Ltd (Founder has 50 + years in Early Years practice + 35 years in devleoping software).
On the Button officially launched in April 25 after the body map was developed and is actively maintained with continuous development.
Is On the Button any good?
On the Button is the specialist Early Years Safeguarding software expertly designed to also promote well-being, complaint management and compliance. It has been shaped through real use in early years settings and refined over time with feedback from nursery and preschool leaders, safeguarding leads and other early years professionals working directly in practice. The platform has also been reviewed by sector experts who deliver safeguarding training and support settings day to day, helping ensure it is practical, relevant and grounded in how early years actually works. Ongoing feedback continues to guide how On the Button develops, with new features added in clear, purposeful ways that support everyday practice rather than complicate it.
In 2025, On the Button was recognised across two national awards and an international one:
Highly Commended – Teach Early Years Awards 2025 (Happy and Healthy Award)
Finalist – NMT Nursery Awards, Technology Product of the Year
Finalist – GESS Education Awards, Early Years Resource / Equipment Supplier of the Year
Who is On the Button provided by?
Quality Early Years has been creating evolving early years software for 35+ years, rooted in our own award-winning and formerly Ofsted Outstanding settings. On the Button is the specialist Early Years Safeguarding software expertly designed to also promote well-being, complaint management and compliance. It was created by the sector, for the sector, to help settings respond more confidently to concerns, keep key information clear and connected, and strengthen day-to-day practice.
Can it be used in any country?
Yes. On the Button is the specialist Early Years Safeguarding software expertly designed to also promote well-being, complaint management and compliance. Laws and procedures vary from country to country, but the core need to record concerns clearly, alert the right people and keep actions connected remains the same. On the Button makes it easy for staff to report concerns, helps designated leaders review and respond appropriately, and keeps records clear if information needs to be shared with external professionals.
Are we able to suggest changes or improvements?
Yes, please. We are keen to keep improving On the Button so it continues to meet the needs of people working across early years at every level. We hold regular Get-togethers with customers to discuss sector challenges and gather ideas. As the specialist Early Years Safeguarding software, expertly designed to also promote well-being, complaint management and compliance, On the Button continues to evolve in practical ways that support everyday practice rather than add to the burden.
PRACTICALITIES
How much support will I get?
On the Button is designed to be straightforward to use, with short videos to guide staff where needed. Alongside that, you can access real human support, including regular face-to-face help and WhatsApp support, all included as part of your package. Because On the Button is the specialist Early Years Safeguarding software expertly designed to also promote well-being, complaint management and compliance, we know settings may sometimes want reassurance as well as instructions, and we are here to help with both.
What can I record on On the Button?
On the Button gives staff a clear place to record safeguarding concerns and other important information that may affect a child, member of staff or the wider setting. This includes small observations, emerging worries, changes in behaviour, injuries, absences, family concerns, well-being check-ins and patterns that build over time. Designated safeguarding leads and senior leaders can then record actions, decisions, interventions and outcomes, creating clear chronological records in one secure place. On the Button is also expertly designed to support wider practice through complaint management, safer recruitment records, staff training and expiry tracking, confidential whistleblowing and other compliance features that continue to evolve with sector feedback.
How difficult is it to use?
Not at all. On the Button is designed to be simple and clear for busy early years teams to use in real day-to-day practice. As the specialist Early Years Safeguarding software, expertly designed to also promote well-being, complaint management and compliance, it helps staff record what matters without adding unnecessary complexity. Short videos and real human support are available if needed, but most people find it easy to get going.
Who and how are senior staff notified of an issue?
You have control over who receives email and SMS notifications. These preferences are set when adding staff members, typically including the Designated Safeguarding Lead, senior staff, and the Registered Person/Owner/Director. On the Button will immediately send notifications via SMS and email in the event of a safeguarding concern. Additionally, daily On the Button will automatically send SMS and email messages to those designated individuals to review general well-being logs entered on your software.
Is there a limit to the number of SMS messages sent?
There is no limit on the number of SMS messages, and they are all covered within your package.
SECURITY
How robust & secure is On the Button?
We take security seriously. That's why we make sure your information is super safe. We use strong protection like encryption, multi-factor authentication, and a permission system based on roles. We also keep your data separate for extra security.
Do you comply with Data Protection legislation?
Absolutely! We follow all the data protection laws in the UK.
IN RELATION TO TERMS AND CONDITIONS
How much does it cost?
Fees depend on the size of the provision. Set-up is £1 per registered place (one-off). Subscription is £8 per registered place per year, or 73p per registered place per calendar month.
We price by registered places (your Ofsted registered capacity / maximum occupancy), so costs stay consistent and do not change as children on roll change. Subscriptions start from 25 places.
Example (50 registered places): £400 per year (about £7.70 per week / £1.54 per day) + one-off set-up £50. No VAT is added.
For multi-setting organisations: if you have 4+ settings or 500+ registered places across your group (ordered together), contact us to check whether an implementation credit on the one-off set-up fee applies.
Do I need to pay for extra support packages?
No. Everything is provided to help you and your team use On the Button effectively. If that proves not to be the case, we will arrange extra support as part of your contract, i.e., we will not ask for an extra payment.
Do I have to pay extra for the SMS messages?
No, regardless of the quantity used or the country of residence, SMS messaging is included in your package.
Why do you charge per 'registered place' (shown on the last Ofsted Report)?
This approach ensures fairness for all organisations, regardless of size. You have full clarity on your yearly expenses, eliminating any surprises or unexpected invoices demanding additional funds. The amount of children on your roll can change monthly, or even weekly - we don't want to charge you for children that don't exist or end up in a position where you are owing. This streamlined process simplifies your financial management and prevents the need for us to chase unpaid invoices or suspend software accounts. Should this method prove to be an issue, then we are happy to discuss alternative agreements with you.
What if I am not happy?
We hope you will tell us why and give us a chance to fix the problem. We aim to continually improve On the Button, so your views are important to us. However, for your peace of mind, we offer everyone a 90-day full money-back guarantee should On the Button not meet your needs. After that, one calendar month's notice is required on your regular payment date.
Will I be tied into a long contract?
No. We ask for one calendar month's notice from your regular payment date.
