On The Button is software designed for well-being, safeguarding, and complaint management in early years settings and children's clubs.
On our website, you can watch a demo online or request a 1:1 consultation. For the first time in 10 months, a manager overseeing multiple settings requested a live demo.
I'll be honest—I was a little nervous. When she didn't turn up at first, I felt a quiet sense of relief. But having been a manager myself, I completely understood. Good intentions often get pushed aside when something else needs immediate attention.
Then, 10-15 minutes later, Belinda arrived. My nerves faded as soon as we started chatting. I reassured her that I understood how unpredictable nursery life can be. Then, I asked her what she hoped to achieve.
This is why I'm sharing this story—because you might be in the same position.
Beinda began - "We're just looking at obviously making sure that the safeguarding is more robust. Obviously, instead of having a piece of paper flying around here and things and just hopefully all in one place, easily managed and obviously just more efficient, really."
Great goals I thought. Next, I asked if she had any questions since booking her demo.
"We need to ask about pricing at the end because it was really confusing the way it said like per place rather than like a normal monthly amount and things."
For clarity: We charge per place, not per child.
So, if your nursery can accommodate 30 children at one time, you only pay for 30 places—even if 50-60+ children use those places throughout the week. We also offer annual and monthly payment options to suit different cash flow needs.
Belinda then said, "I want to see how it works."
I agreed, explaining we'd start there and cover pricing at the end.
A Minor Hiccup... And a Lesson in Security
Since On The Button automatically logs out for security reasons, I had to log back in before sharing my screen. Usually, not a big deal—but my internet decided to crawl at a snail's pace. Then my nerves kicked back in!
As we waited (which felt like forever!), Belinda asked:
"Is it an application, or is it a web page, or both?"
I explained:
"It's not an app. The software will send you SMS messages."
I also walked her through the double authentication process, explaining how it adds extra security. I even confessed about my slow internet, and to my relief, she was really understanding!
"So, do all staff members log in on the nursery way?" she asked.
I confirmed that, yes, staff log in through the nursery. I also explained that access levels vary, so information is shared on a need-to-know basis. Senior staff—such as DSLs, deputies, managers, and directors (if they choose to be involved)—have higher-level access.
Belinda checked:
"All right, so if they make a concern, then the information goes to people senior to the DSL if the DSL isn't a senior member of staff?"
I showed her how children are added to the system. In a large nursery like hers, I suggested that each key person add their own children to start quickly. I also mentioned with just the 5-minute video provided staff can quickly begin using On The Button with ease.
